hey guys
just bought my computer a week ago, and i'm having a couple probs.
when i installed my BF1942, it wouldn't recognize the 2nd cd. when i opened windows explorer, it show a blank disk.i clicked properties, 0 bytes.
So i assumed i had a bad copy of the game...i wne tback to the store to have them check it out and it was fine. i tried it again and it worked just fine. Now when i play the game, occasionly i get an error saying insert correct disk and try again, then exits to desktop. that happens mostly when trying to connect to a game through the add server option(i click add server, put the ip addy in and click join game). but if i just update my list and connect to a game it is usually fine. seems to only happen to this game....although this is the only thing i am really using the cd player for as of right now.
also, when i load my pc...a couple icons are not "openable". i can clikc on them but nothing happens for a minute or so and then the program finally opens. this happens mostly to my shortcut to my internet connection. I applied the fix to the right-click menu but did not seem to help.
Running windows XP Home, p4, 512 ram, 2.6ghz, -NEC DVD+RW ND-1100A, SB LIVE!, NVIDIA Geforce 4 MX 440 with AGP8X
As with the other stuff bud, lol I know you heard this a few times, first think I would do is double check to see that you have the current drivers for you drives. Most everything that comes on a cd isn't the current stuff out, Unless you get it the day it comes out. Will look into a few more thoughts and get back to you.
will check on the drivers for the cdrom
as for everythign else...they are all up to date.
the boot up thing doesn't really bother m, its just the thign with bf1942...i cannot add or join a server that doesn't appear in the list that comes up without it saying wrong cd rom then exit to desktop.
Enable/Disable UDF Support
If you are using Windows 98 or Windows Me, change the UDF setting. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, click Run, type msconfig in the Open box, and then click OK.
Click Advanced.
Click the Disable UDF File System option, and then click OK.
When you are prompted to restart your computer, click OK, and then click Yes.
When your computer restarts, UDF support has changed. If this makes no difference, change the setting back.
NOTE: Generally, UDF should be enabled. However, some drives do not support UDF. For these drives, UDF should be left disabled. These drives will not be able to be read discs that only use the UDF file system.
NOTE: DVD-ROMs require the UDF file system, unless they are a UDF Bridge disc (mastered for both ISO 9660 and UDF).
Disable DMA for the Drive
To disable DMA for the CD-ROM or DVD drive, follow these steps:
Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click System.
On the Device Manager tab, click View Devices By Type.
Click the plus sign (+) next to CDROM to expand the branch.
Click the CD-ROM or DVD drive that you want to change, and then click Properties.
Click the Settings tab.
Click to clear the DMA check box, and then click Close.
Close Control Panel, and then restart the computer.
If the issue continues to occur, proceed to the next method.
Reduce Drive Caching
To reduce CD-ROM or DVD drive caching, follow these steps:
Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
Double-click System.
On the Performance tab, click File System.
On the CD-ROM or DVD tab, move the Supplemental Cache Size slider to the Small position.
In the Optimize Access Pattern For box, click NoRead-Ahead.
Click OK, and then click Close.
When you are prompted to restart your computer, click Yes.
Check for Drive Firmware Updates for the drive... just be carefull when doing any filmware upgrades if done incorrectly or using the wrong filmware will trash the drive.
Thnks guys but i have fixed the problem
iunstalled BF1942 and reinstalled.
now the only thing i did differently this time, was i left the RTR cd in the drive when i went to try the game instead of the regular bf1942.
is it the fact that i have to use the rtr cd or do u think the renstallation helped?
Ok try this cd prob..

I had a Kenwood True X 72 CD ROM that would randomly dissapear and take the Yamaha CDRW drive on the same IDE chain with it. Turned out one of the chips on the controller board was overheating. Anyway, sounds like a dodgy drive to me LT.
could be when you took it out and put it in another pc you shook it up enough, however its just too uniform in whats happening in this pc , what os is on this pc ?
