Recently our graphics driver, 128MB DDR NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti 4600 (w/TV out), has been causing a problem where the comp will jsut restart n the middle of a program. This is getting annoying especially when im viewing a web page. I was wondering if there is anything that i can do to correct this problem. _________________ "A wise man learns from the deaths of others"
Whats leading you to think that the graphics driver is the problem?
There are several things that could cause the system to simply reboot on its own. First thing I would do is check to make sure that all your connections inside the computer are good and tight. Make sure that you dont have any static electricity in you when doing this. Try to keep your hand or wrist touching a piece of bare metal on the inside of the case while checking the connections. If a connection comes loose it could cause the system to reboot.
I have recently notice that mine likes to do this if I have any static electricity in me when I go to touch the mouse, keyboard, or case. With the winter time here the air in the house is dry and causes a little more static electricity here. Everytime my kid touches me she gives me a big shock. Told her not to touch my PC LOL.
Its not just when sufing the web, it has occured when off line. I thought that it might be the graphics driver because when the computer restarts, (after login) The message that pops up says that it was the NIVIDIA driver that cause windows to shut down. _________________ "A wise man learns from the deaths of others"
I uninstalled the driver but when i went to reinstall it, an error message popped up that said and error has occured when copying file generic.tvp. It said the the reinstalation could not continue. _________________ "A wise man learns from the deaths of others"
The file that Tazz recommended did not install. Midway throught the installation, it first said that: THe software you are installing for this hardware:
NVIDIA Gefporce Ti 4600
has not passed windows logo testing to verify its compatibility with windows XP.
I hit continue anyway, and then the warning message came up that said error copying file type generic.tv_ , the installation cannot continue.
Any idea on what to do now? _________________ "A wise man learns from the deaths of others"
Well it would be nice if you had a NVIDIA disk that came with the card. I am sure they got one, but failed to give it to you. Even when you buy OEM parts you still get the drivers that are designed for them on a cd, atleast everything OEM that I have boughten did.
Unfortunatly we got no NIVIDIA disk with the purchase of our computer. There have been times when the computer has asked for a CD but we never got that disk.
My mom has decided to take it into a computer repair place so i may not be able to do anything for a few days maybe even weeks.. _________________ "A wise man learns from the deaths of others"
Well, feeling bold, i ignored the warnings/errors on the install and hit continue with installation anyway. After restarting the comp. everything is ok now. Im not that it worked completely though because only time will tell if something goes wrong again. _________________ "A wise man learns from the deaths of others"
LOL I got to thinking about that to, I remembered that I had an issue on something in this when installed it, and continued, lol wasnt a problem, cause everything runs fine.
